Think about taking your students to a library like this.
Would you take your class here and say “go find stuff!” How much effective use of time or learning would happen if you did?
No. You would probably collect a selection of books on the topic or create a bibliography or reading list.
Now imagine a library 10, 20 100 or even 1000 times bigger. That’s the sort of information that is on the web….and growing all the time. We need ways to support and challenge our students as they harness the “knowledge of the crowd”.
So maybe that’s what we need to do when we want our students to use the power of the web to collect information – we need to provide support for our students to harness the “knowledge of the crowd”.
